Denio

In a state like Nevada, with historical roots in boom-or-bust pursuits like mining, small towns are to be expected. Many of the small communities still standing in Nevada today are leftover from livelier heydays in the early part of last century, while others are simply small populations brought together by chance or geography. One such tiny town is Denio, an unincorporated area in Humboldt County that straddles the Nevada-Oregon border. While most of the town sits south of the state line in Nevada, Denio is known as both a Nevada and an Oregon town.

Services are quite limited in Denio, but the small, unassuming community does have a local post office, library, elementary school and community center. It also boasts the Diamond Inn Bar, the town’s main social hub. The region surrounding Denio is popular for activities like fishing and hunting, while the area’s local mines make opal hunting another enjoyable pursuit.
